Summer days are often long and full, keeping us on the move from sun up to sun down.  Occasionally though, the warm sun and a gentle breeze will remind us to slow down and enjoy. If you're looking for some ideas to fill those long, lazy days in July, we've compiled a list of "smooth" summer activities that make the most of what this season has to offer.

Toast the Season

Grab a tasty, cold local brew and sip while you watch the world go by. You can find a great Main Street patio at the Hop Haus, a huge outdoor beer garden at Wisconsin Brewing Company or a quaint, riverfront park at the Hop Garden. Great seasonal flavors include:

Hop Haus | Year-round Christmas Lights HOPPY HEFEWEIZEN, 5.2%

Wisconsin Brewing Co | Lake Louie Li’l Louie AMERICAN LAGER, 4.2%

Hop Garden | Bushel Basket, IPA, 7.0%

Picnic in the Park

Head to Miller’s and fill up a picnic basket with your favorite snacks, sandwiches, and beverages, then head to a nearby park or a peaceful green space. Spread out a blanket, find a shady spot under a tree, and enjoy! Badger Prairie and Prairie Moraine parks both offer lots of great picnicking spots and are dog-friendly if your family includes a furry friend!

Take a Walk

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature by hitting one of the many trails here in Verona. Take in the sights and sounds along the Ice Age Trail, Military Ridge or at Scheidegger Forest. The gardens at Epic offer a totally captivating experience with their meticulously curated displays and unique landscapes - be sure to check out their visiting hours and guidelines before you head over.

Explore Your Creative Side

Whether it's painting, drawing, writing, or playing a musical instrument, indulging in artistic endeavors is a great way to break up summer’s non-stop action. Find a fun restoration project at St. Vinny’s, grab some repurposed craft supplies at Goodwill or stop by Crimson Artist Collective to try your hand at pottery.

Escape With a Book

Stop by Kismet Books to pick up that book you've been meaning to read or ask for a suggestion and explore a new genre or author. Find a shady spot on your patio or at a park and let an afternoon slip away.

Outdoor Movie Night

Transform your backyard into a cozy outdoor cinema and organize a movie night under the open sky. Pop some popcorn, grab refreshing drinks, and bring the big screen to you OR check out the free movies at Seven Acre Dairy and the Memorial Union Terrace through September 4th.

Take in a Sunset

End your summer days with the  beauty of a sunset. Play an evening round of golf at University Ridge or Pioneer Pointe or grab a drink on the patio at Dahmen’s to enjoy the show as the sun dips below the horizon.

Summer doesn't always have to be about high energy and non-stop activities. Take time to slow down and appreciate the sunshine.
